It's difficult to feel safe in the midst of trauma, abuse, and toxic situations. Long after that situation is over, our bodies may still be in fight, flight, or freeze mode. For some, the symptoms may still be present years later.

When we feel unsafe, our bodies tell us so. Some of these ways are…
  • Being guarded
  • Feeling like you can't trust anyone
  • Withdrawing from loved ones
  • Being jumpy
  • Being hypervigilant
  • Abnormal sleeping patterns
  • Have little to no energy
  • Being self-destructive (excessive eating, drinking, smoking, drugs, etc)
  • Overly worried and/or excessive rumination
  • Feeling suicidal and/or homicidal
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Depressive symptoms
  • Anxiety
  • Flashbacks
  • Panic attacks
  • Unexplained headaches and stomachaches
  • And many other symptoms

Until we feel safe, it's difficult for our bodies to relax, process the trauma, and start to heal.

Make mental health a priority.
You deserve to feel safe.
You deserve to be safe.
You deserve to be mentally whole.

The first step to wholeness is being honest with yourself and admitting you need help. The second step is seeking help by looking for a therapist. Keep in mind, it may take some time to find a therapist that is a right fit for you.
