I’m sure all of us can remember the first time our periods came. For me, it happened when I was 12 years old. I screamed, “Mommy! Mommy! I have my period!” My mother happily came to me and explained what I needed to do.

For the first seven years, I experienced no pain with my periods. Then everything started to change. My lifestyle was hectic during college. I ate junk food regularly because it was quick and convenient. I did not exercise. In fact, I hated walking! I spent many sleepless nights studying.

At the age of 20, my periods started to become painful. My stress levels were high due to college assignments, working a part-time job, and surviving on coffee. I started developing menstrual migraines that lasted about half a day.

As I grew older, I got horrific menstrual migraines for two days every month, accompanied with nausea and vomiting all day. I couldn’t walk, talk, or move much or else I would find myself in the bathroom throwing up. Quite often, I missed work, school, important events, and other opportunities in my life. I felt very miserable and hopeless. Every time I experienced painful periods, I felt my lifespan getting shorter and shorter.

One day, I said to myself, all this suffering cannot be normal…there is definitely something wrong with me! I asked God for direction, for a way out, and He led me to the right resources. After lots of research, I finally understood why my periods were so painful and getting worse each month. After applying what I learned, I soon started experiencing less pain and eventually had pain free periods. At last, I stopped living in fear when that time of the month arrived.

Here are some things I implemented to have pain free periods:
  • Taking magnesium glycinate every day
  • Sleeping at least 7-8 hours every night
  • Exercising on a regular basis
  • Drinking ginger tea on a regular basis

Through my personal experience and journey in menstrual health, I decided to become a Women’s Health Coach. My mission is to help as many women, as God allows, experience better periods naturally. Painful periods are not normal. We should not have to rely on medications to survive. After all, God never intended any of us to suffer like this every month. Living pain-free is absolutely possible.
